Whats Up West?

Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres MP today met with Ms Alex Long and Mr Lawrence Muskitta of Youth Action, organisers of What’s Up West? DIY Reality 2013 conference and youth from Outburst! Western Sydney Youth Forum.

What’s Up West? Will be held at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Penrith over the weekend of 26-27 September 2013.

“What’s Up West? Is a terrific opportunity for the youth of Western Sydney to get together and have their stay on issues which are important to them” said Mr Ayres.

“What’s Up West? is all about listening to what young people have to say, providing them with an opportunity to talk about the issues they are passionate about and skilling them up with the tools to go out and make a difference in their world” said Ms Long.

“I would encourage those aged 12-18 years who want to make a change in the local community to attend and to become equipped with information and skills to make a difference”

“One of the targets of this year’s conference is to increase participation by those of indigenous background to attend.  The Penrith area has a large indigenous population and it would be terrific to have them attend and become inspired to make changes in the community”

There will be numerous skill sessions on offer over the weekend and include workshops on short filmmaking, political lobbying, online activism, crowd funding, starting a business and poetry slamming.

Registration is free and the weekend includes food, games, prizes, bands, workshops and performances.
