Vitex Pharmaceuticals is pushing ahead with plans to build two new facilities in the Western Parkland City, creating more than 1,000 jobs and training hundreds of students in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
The Australian company has moved a step closer to building an Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Research Academy and a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.
Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said Vitex has jumped at the chance to grow with the new city on the doorstep of the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport.
“Vitex has been a supporter of the NSW Government’s vision for the Aerotropolis since the start and it is great to see them progress their plans for both a manufacturing and a training facility,” Mr Ayres said.
“This shows how the Aerotropolis can help existing Western Sydney companies grow and ultimately drive the creation of 200,000 jobs across the Western Parkland City.
“I would like to acknowledge the scale and success of this home-grown company and welcome their proposed multi-million dollar investment in the future.”
“The Institute will be the first in Australia to offer dedicated training in pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical process engineering which is a current major skills gap in our industry. In doing so, we hope to not only raise the skills of our own people, but also contribute to raising the standard of our industry in Australia,” Dr Chami said.
“We must uphold the premium quality reputation of Australian manufacturing, as well as ensure speed to market. In investing in a second Pharmaceutical Facility within the Aerotropolis, we continue to remain steadfast in our commitment to supplying high quality Australian made pharmaceutical products to the world.”
The Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Research Academy will be a 10,000sqm Centre of Excellence in the Aerotropolis Core Precinct. It will employ up to 50 staff, train up to 200 students a year and is expected to open by 2025.
The Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility will be in the Agribusiness Precinct. It will employ up to 1,000 people and is due to open following the Research Academy.
