NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley, and Stuart Ayres, Member for Penrith, today announced the opening of registrations for the Western Sydney Marathon, to be held on Saturday 5th October, at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith.
“The Western Sydney Marathon will again be held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre and provide people of all abilities with the opportunity to get some valuable physical exercise and have a great day outdoors,” Mr Annesley said.
“Four different races will be staged to cater for all ages and abilities: Penrith Lakes Development Corporation Marathon; Penrith City Council Half Marathon; Fusion FM Vintage FM 10km Lap the Lake; and Penrith Press 5km Family Fun Run.
“In addition to the races, the day will also include music, a health and fitness expo, children’s games, jumping castle and food stalls, so there will something for everyone to enjoy,” Mr Annesley added.
Stuart Ayres, Member for Penrith, said the Sydney International Regatta Centre provided the perfect backdrop for the Western Sydney Marathon, now in its fourth successive year at Penrith.
“We are blessed to enjoy the benefits of the one of the world’s best Regatta Centres in our backyard and the Western Sydney Marathon is just another way for the community to make the most of these outstanding facilities,” Mr Ayres said.
“A new running course has been designed for the 2013 event, combining the Sydney International Regatta Centre lakes with scenic views of the Lower Blue Mountains.
“The Family Fun Run also provides the opportunity to spend quality time outdoors with family and friends, as well as bringing the community together to celebrate the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle,” Stuart Ayres added.
Participants will receive a gift pack from event sponsors including Western Sydney Marathon merchandise, with discounted early bird registration available until 30 June.
