Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith and Minister responsible for Volunteering, Ray Williams announced the Nepean Community and Neighbourhood Services (NCNS) Breakfast Club will receive $4,000.
Mr Ayres applauded volunteers of NCNS who generously donate their time to run the program which ensures students have access to a meal before school.
“I’m proud to support The Breakfast Club program. It is a valuable initiative that ensures local young people start the day with a nutritious meal and are engaged at school,” Mr Ayres said.
Teachers and community volunteers pick students up to attend the Breakfast Club and then walk them to school.
Mr Williams thanked local volunteers and teachers for their commitment to supporting students.
“A healthy meal before school gives students the fuel they need to participate in class and engage with their peers,” Mr Williams said.
Mr Williams and Mr Ayres also announced Penrith Community Aid Service will receive $1,500 to support with providing food and clothing to families in need.
“Thank you to the volunteers of Penrith Community Aid Service who are committed to providing vital services to local residents,” Mr Ayres said
“The benefits our community receives from the group’s referral services, friendship clubs and emergency food and clothing relief is remarkable.”
Mr Williams said in NSW, more than 2.1 million people volunteer and contribute more than $5 billion in services to the economy every year.
“The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is committed to supporting volunteers across the State,” Mr Williams said.
