Penrith MP rolls up sleeves for small business

Liberal Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres will be joining more than 80 of his state and federal colleagues across New South Wales as they are put to work on the NSW Business Chamber’s annual Pollies for Small Business program.

Stuart Ayres will be visiting local business the GoodGuys Electrical Warehouse on Wednesday 28th July 2010 between 12:30pm and 3:30pm.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of the local community. They play a vital role in providing employment to our community and sustaining our local economy.” Mr Ayres said today.

“Working closely with these businesses is a fantastic way to get some real experience and understand the challenges that small business owners and employees face every day.

“The small businesses I talk to tell me of the pain they are feeling due to the lack of customer parking, rising energy costs, and the high state taxes and red tape.

Stephen Cartwright, CEO of NSW Business Chamber said with much of the focus often on the big picture issues, at times the concerns of small business can get lost.

Pollies for Small Business puts our politicians at the coalface and gives small business operators the chance to raise their concerns directly with their local MP. As the economy moves towards recovery this opportunity has never been more important.” Mr Cartwright said.

“Last year over 80 State and Federal politicians took part from the major parties, greens and independents, including the Premier and NSW Opposition Leader.

“This is a great program. It helps businesspeople and MPs understand one another better and we should encourage and support any measures that can help achieve that”, Mr Cartwright concluded.

The NSW Business Chamber Pollies for Small Business program is run in cooperation with the local Chamber of Commerce network.
