O’Farrell Govt steps in to secure air-conditioned carriages

Thedelivery of air-conditioned Waratah carriages across the CityRail network has been bolstered by the swift and decisive action of the NSW Government to secure the future of Reliance Rail, Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres said today.
\”The NSW Government has stepped in with $175 million to protect the government’s investment in new Waratah carriages from going the way of so many failed Labor spending projects.\” Mr Ayres.
\”The NSW Liberals & Nationalswill not be allowing the bungled deals of the previous government to interfere with the delivery of air-conditioned carriages to Penrith.
\”This government knows the value of getting these carriages online. When we were in opposition, Gladys Berejiklian and I put a lot of effort into holding the previous government to account for their botched, bungled and delayed roll-out of Waratah carriages.
\”Local residents who freeze during the Penrith winter mornings and swelter in the Penrith summer afternoons have made their voices heard and our commitment to making Reliance Raildeliver these carriages is a clear reflection of the input we received.\”
Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian said customers had waited long enough for the new Waratah Trains.
\”As in so many other areas, this Labor mess was left to the NSW Liberals & Nationals to fix.
\”We want these trains on our tracks as soon as possible – that’s why we have taken the steps we have announced today.\”
If Reliance Rail adhere to their schedule, the lasttrain is expected to be delivered to RailCorp by the end of 2014.
