Motorists can now benefit from safer travel on the Northern Road at Cranebrook with work completed on a major upgrade which aims to improve access to the Jordan Springs development.
Stuart Ayres said the Northern Road was upgraded from two lanes to a four lane divided road from north of Andrews Road to north of the Borrowdale Way intersection.
“The improvement work which started in 2013 aims to reduce crash risk after 39 people were injured in 47 crashes in the five years to 1 July 2012,” Stuart Ayres said.
Stuart Ayres said Lend Lease carried out the upgrade on behalf of the NSW Government as part of the Jordan Springs urban development project.
“The Penrith region is a growing community with new residential suburbs and employment districts and upgrading Northern Road is vital to accommodate future traffic increases.
“The 1.9 kilometre road upgrade also included new pedestrian and cyclist facilities, new traffic lights, street lighting, noise barriers and concrete retaining walls.
“A wider, safer Northern Road will improve travel times for all road users between Windsor and the M4 and to Penrith, Cranebrook and new residences at Jordan Springs,” Stuart Ayres said.
Road users are thanked for their patience while this work was carried out.
