New No Stopping” zone to improve highway flow at Emu Plains”

A new ‘no stopping’ zone to be installed on the Great Western Highway at Emu Plains by Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will improve traffic flow and road safety.

“The new no stopping restrictions will apply during the morning peak, from 6am to 10am, on the northern side of the highway from Station Street South to around 50 metres east of Billington Place,” Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres said.

“The proposal to establish the new zone was developed in response to community requests to investigate the impact of unrestricted parking on eastbound traffic flow on the Great Western Highway at Emu Plains.

“Community members said they were concerned vehicles parked on the highway at this location restrict it to one lane which often causes congestion.

“Signs marking the new zone are expected to be installed on Monday 16 January, weather permitting.”

The work will generate some noise, however RMS will make every effort to minimise its impact on nearby residents and businesses.
