New Hospital Block boosts service at Nepean Hospital

Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres today welcomed the opening of Nepean Hospital’s $87M East Block, a significant milestone in the modernisation and redevelopment of Nepean Hospital.
\”The opening of East Block and the continuing work on new facilities at Nepean Hospital is a clear indication of the commitment shown by the O’Farrell Government to improve health services in Penrith and Western Sydney.\” Mr Ayres said.
\”The new East Block is a state of the art health facilitydesigned with input from clinicians, nurses, patients as well as some of the world’s best health architects. The construction of the block has also taken into consideration opportunities for further growth as demand for health services in our region grows.
\”For a long time now Jillian Skinner has been an amazingly strong advocate for the improvement of health infrastructure and services in Western Sydney. Her advocacy and leadership cannot be underestimated in this project.
\”As a joint development between the NSW and Commonwealth Governments I would like to recognise the role the Kevin Rudd played in investing in the Hospital’s future when he was Prime Minister.
\”The new East Block features six operating theatres, an Ambulatory Procedure Centre and two surgical wards able to accommodate a total of 60 patients. In addition to the actual East Block the chapel has been relocated and major upgrades have taken place to the Intensive Care Unit.
\”Beyond East Block the state government is investing in additional facilities which include new mental health and oral health facilities and have just submitted the Development Application (with Penrith Council)for a 650 space multi-storey carpark.
