Nepean Hospital waiting list up 1,297 over last 2 years

Shadow Minister for Health Jillian Skinner and Liberal Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres today said the State Labor Government’s most recent waiting list data reveals 1,297 more people are waiting for surgery at Nepean Hospital now than in 2008.

\”The Keneally Labor Government tried to hide the release of these waiting list figures, and it’s little wonder when they show since June 2008 an additional 8,644 patients are on the waiting list,\” Mrs Skinner said.

\”In June 2008 the surgery waiting list was 58,173 and it’s now 66,817,\” she said.

\”In June 2008 the State Labor Government claimed there were just 40 patients who had waited longer than 12 months for surgery – that figure nowstands at 1,063 patients.

\”The average wait patients endure has risen from 2.67 months in June 2008 to 3.32 months in June 2010.

\”More patients are waiting longer to get their surgery under the incompetent Keneally Labor Government despite additional Federal funding to drive down waiting lists.\”

Liberal Member for Penrith Stuart Ayressaid Labor had let patients in Western Sydney down.

\”In the last two years the waiting list at Nepean Hospital has grown by 1,297, with 3,327 patients now waiting for surgery,\” Mr Ayres said.

\”I’m fighting for Nepean Hospital’s fair share of resources, so that Western Sydney patients get the timely treatment they need and deserve.

\”Only the NSW Liberals & Nationals have the positive, practical plans to deliver better health services and put Western Sydney patients first,\” Mr Ayres said.
