Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith joined Mr Peter Chia, Chief Executive, Muru Mittigar and Mr Mike Quarg, Muru Community Finance Hub Manager at the official opening of the Muru Mittigar Community Finance Hub (CFH) in their new High Street Office.
Muru Mittigar has been successfully been operating a Community Finance and Indigenous Money Mentor Program from its Castlereagh home since 2012 however public access has not always been easy therefore the decision was made to relocate to High Street.
“Relocating to High Street will mean a more visible presence along with easy access from public transport,” said Stuart Ayres.
Since 2012, the CFH have written over 800 no interest loans totalling $850,000 for Indigenous and non-Indigenous disadvantaged people in the Penrith Area. Additionally, over 460 clients have utilised their financial counselling service and they regularly promote Financial Literacy at local community events.
“It’s terrific to note that these loans have been repaid in more than 95 per cent of cases,” said Stuart Ayres.
