Malama Psarianos Recognised with Premier’s Volunteer Recognition

Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith today presented Malama Psarianos with a Premier’s Volunteer Recognition certificate.

The Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program celebrates volunteering and acknowledges the desire to take part in community life across all ages.

“Volunteers like Malama do so much to make our local community stronger and it’s important we offer our thanks and recognition,” said Stuart Ayres.

Malama has been recognised for her 25 years of volunteering across numerous sectors including:  the Greek voice of WOW FM, Clean up Australia Day, Keep Australia Beautiful, Winter Sleep Out and fundraising for many charities.

“It’s great to see people like Malama committed to volunteering and making a difference in our community,” added Stuart Ayres.

Stuart Ayres also announced that applications for the 2018 Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program are now open and is encouraging locals to nominate community members who volunteer their time.

“Volunteers in Penrith are the backbone of our community and this program shows appreciation for their contributions,” Stuart Ayres said.

“Volunteers make a difference and it is important that we applaud these efforts.”

Minister responsible for volunteering, Mr Ray Williams said The Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program celebrates the importance of volunteering.

“More than 2.1 million volunteers contribute an estimated $5 billion of value to local communities in NSW each year,” Mr Williams said.

“This program plays an important role in acknowledging and expressing gratitude for the selfless efforts of our volunteers.”

There are seven categories under the program, including people with over 40 years and over 25 years of volunteer service, significant volunteering at any age, newly retired people who have commenced or continued volunteering, and three student categories.

To date, the program has recognised the hard work of more than 21,000 volunteers from across NSW.
