Six high school students across NSW will have the chance to visit historic WWII sites in Japan and Hawaii as part of the ClubsNSW Premier’s WWII Memorial Tour.
Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith today encouraged all year 11 high school students aged 16 and 17 to put pen to paper for a chance to be selected for this once in a lifetime trip.
The NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and Minister for Transport and Veterans David Elliott announced the opening of the essay writing program.
Stuart Ayres said to be in the running for selection, students would have to submit a 1000-word essay which answers the question, ‘Are the lessons of WWII still relevant today?
“The ClubsNSW Premier’s WWII Memorial Tour will provide opportunities for students to develop their knowledge and understanding of the history of World War II,” Stuart Ayres said.
“The six successful students selected for this trip will be taken on a guided 11-day tour of historic WWII sites in Hiroshima, Japan and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
“The attack on Pearl Harbor and atomic bombing of Hiroshima are two of the most pivotal moments in the Second World War and this exclusive experience of a guided overseas tour will give students an in-depth understanding of some of the most defining moments in World War II history,” Stuart Ayres said.
The group will depart Sydney on Thursday 21 July and return on Sunday 31 July. Year 11 students must be aged 16 or 17 to submit an essay via the ClubsNSW website, here. Entries are open now until 5pm on 13 June 2022.
