Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith today announced Greater Sydney Landcare Network is among 62 organisations that will host local coordinators as part of the NSW Government’s $15 million Local Landcare Coordinator Initiative.

Local coordinators, Elisha Duxbury and Xuela Sledge have been appointed by Greater Sydney Landcare Network to help deliver Landcare projects in the Greater Sydney area encompassing Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Central Coast.

Stuart Ayres said Elisha and Xuela will be based at Penrith and are two of 66 part-time Local Landcare Coordinators throughout NSW appointed for a 3.5 year period.

“A diverse range of not-for-profit organisations will deliver support to the hard-working Landcare volunteers in the Penrith electorate and in local communities across NSW.

“The appointment of Elisha and Xuela signals the successful fulfilment of stage one of the initiative that has been designed to build capacity and connections within local communities and increase the effectiveness of the Landcare network.”

The coordinators met in Newcastle last week for an induction program that signals the development of a community of practice to bring together ideas, innovation and training concepts across the state.

Chair of Greater Sydney Landcare Network, Wendy Goonan, said Xuela and Elisha will work with the Network to increase community volunteering and capacity to carry out landcare activities in the Greater Sydney Region, especially the Western Sydney and Blue Mountains areas.

“This initiative has been designed to develop a stronger network of Landcare and community groups and to find a sustainable model to ensure Landcare’s future viability,” Stuart Ayres said.
