Liberal Party Selects Candidates for Penrith and Mulgoa

The NSW Liberal Party today selected its candidates to stand in the crucial seats of Penrith and Mulgoa at the important state election in March 2011.

Stuart Ayres is to be the Liberal Party candidate for Penrith and Tanya Davies in Mulgoa. Both candidates were voted for by their respective Selection Committees, comprised of a majority of local Liberal Party members.

Liberal Party State President, Nick Campbell, said “The Liberal Party has chosen two outstanding candidates with strong connections to their communities.”

“Stuart Ayres and his family have been integral members of the Penrith community for a number of years and has been actively involved in sporting organisations,” said Mr Campbell.

Mr Ayres said, “I am extremely honoured to have been selected by the local Liberal Party members to be their candidate. I understand the enormity of the task ahead and look forward to the challenge of working for the people of Penrith.”

“Unlike Labor, I won’t be taking the people of Penrith for granted,” said Mr Ayres.

Mr Ayres was educated at St Dominic’s College, Penrith and is now the Marketing Manager at the Australian College of Physical Education. He is a former player and board member with the Penrith Rams Football Club.

Mr Campbell said, “Ms Davies is a hardworking community representative. She’s a working mother so she relates to the issues and demands facing families in the area.”

Tanya Davies was elected to Penrith City Council in 2008. She is a Manager, Global Operating Management Systems for Campus Living Villages.

Ms Davies said, “As I’ve been out doorknocking in the area in my role as a Councillor, I am constantly told that the people here feel as though they’ve been forgotten. I can assure the residents of Mulgoa, I will never forget them and they will be my priority.”

“As a mother with a three year old daughter, a mortgage, and a regular train commuter and road user, I appreciate the daily challenges local families are dealing with. I am passionate about improving our local services, particularly public transport. As a Councillor, I have been fighting for improved children’s services, upgrading sporting grounds and better management of our waste services,”

Liberal Party State Director, Mark Neeham, said “We are extremely pleased to have these two candidates selected. With just under one year to go until the next election, we will be working extremely hard, listening to the people’s concerns and developing policies to Make NSW Number One Again.”

“Both Stuart and Tanya will be talking to people in their communities and understanding the issues of importance, as they seek to gain their support for the important state election,” said Mr Neeham.
