Recent findings from two key reports into infrastructure and the performance of the New South Wales economy revealing that NSW is one of the poorest performing states in the country will come as no surprise to residents living in Penrith and the lower mountains, Liberal Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres said today.
“NSW cannot seem to shake the title of worst performing state in the country,” Mr Ayres said today.
“It is no wonder that at the same time as one report shows the NSW economy is falling behind the rest of Australia, there’s another report stating that we also have the country’s poorest infrastructure.
“Regions like Penrith and the lower mountains are missing out on the infrastructure investments needed to keep pace with our growth.
“Labor may have big plans for residential growth in this area but they’re not backing it up with the infrastructure to support it.
“Locally we need better north-south road links to connect the city to major roads, trains and centres of employment – after 15 years of neglecting this issue, Labor have demonstrated they’re just not up to it.
“NSW Opposition Leader and Shadow Minister for Western Sydney Barry O’Farrell has already announced a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government would establish Infrastructure NSW to coordinate infrastructure planning and funding advice and to provide input to Infrastructure Australia.
“Infrastructure NSW will be responsible for the Liberals & Nationals Restart NSW fund of approximately $5 billion. The fund will be focused on addressing areas of significant infrastructure backlog and delivering projects to address emerging infrastructure challenges driven by population growth.
“The only way to improve the western Sydney economy and get the investment and infrastructure we need is to change the government.”
