Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith today announced that planning will start on an accessibility upgrade at Glenbrook Station following a further $200 million commitment by Premier Gladys Bereijiklian to the Transport Access Program.

“The Transport Access Program is a NSW Government initiative to deliver safe, modern and accessible public transport infrastructure including accessibility upgrades, more commuter car parking and improvements to transport interchanges across the state,” said Stuart Ayres.

“The Government’s most recent investment includes funding to start planning for an accessibility upgrade at Glenbrook Station to make it easier for our less mobile customers to access public transport services, including people with a disability, parents with prams and travellers with luggage.

“Our plan is to make sure Glenbrook Station is fully accessible. Transport for NSW will start site investigations and consultation with the local community and stakeholders.”

“As part of our planning, we’ll investigate what work will be required to make Glenbrook Station fully accessible including new lifts, lighting, handrails, toilets and signage. This will include site investigations and consultation with the local community and stakeholders.”

More than 50 per cent of stations on the suburban and intercity networks are currently wheelchair accessible, covering more than 80 per cent of customer journeys.

The NSW Government has invested more than $1 billion in the Transport Access Program since its launch in 2011 with more than 450 projects completed or currently underway across the state. This includes new station canopies at Blaxland and Lithgow stations, while accessibility upgrades are currently being delivered at Penrith, Leura and Wentworth Falls stations.

“Accessibility in our community is important and I have been approached by constituents about a lift for Glenbrook Train Station.  I will continue to advocate on behalf of the community for a lift at the station and I would appreciate your support by completing my survey,” added Stuart Ayres.
