Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith welcomes the news that a student from Jamison High School will take part in the trip of a lifetime as one of the successful recipients of the 2017 Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarship.
Kayla Godeschalk will visit battlegrounds on the Western Front with other students from across the state to further enhance their knowledge of the Anzac spirit.
More than 130 Government, Catholic and Independent schools across the state entered the ballot. The 22 successful schools have all chosen one student to take part.
Stuart Ayres today visited the school to congratulate Kayla.
“It is terrific news for Kayla and for the Jamison High community that someone from our local region has been selected for such an exciting opportunity,” said Stuart Ayres.
“To have been selected for a scholarship, Kayla had to demonstrate her commitment to the study of Australian history, and passion for maintaining the Anzac tradition,” said Stuart Ayres.
Head History Teacher, Ms Fiona Brown said Kayla is a stand out student and well deserving of this scholarship.
The tour will provide students with a greater understanding of Australia’s wartime history and the birth of the Anzac legend.
This 12-day tour will visit significant Australian battlefields on the Western Front in Belgium and France including Villiers Bretonneux, Bullecourt, Fromelles and Ypres.
