Great Community Transport Funding Boost

Fiona Scott MP, Federal Member for Lindsay and Stuart Ayres MP, State Member for Penrith today announced together they have secured an 18% per cent increase in Federal Government funding for community transport to help people who have a disability or are too frail to travel independently.

In the Penrith region, GREAT Community Transport provides community transport services using HACC funding.

Fiona Scott said this funding delivered in the 2014/15 Federal Budget will provide a significant increase which will assist members of our local community connect with important services through community transport.

“Community transport is an important link that helps people stay independent when they can’t drive or need extra help with things like getting their shopping home,” Fiona Scott said.

“I am extremely pleased to support this vital Home and Community Care (HACC) program and I look forward to working with my State colleagues to ensure we continue to deliver important outcomes and services for our local community,” Fiona Scott added.

Stuart Ayres said the $169,052 was part of a larger $12 million, 30 per cent statewide increase in HACC funding and will result in 5,427 extra trips the region.

“The funding boost is provided under the Home and Community Care (HACC) program and aims to help people live independently by providing transport to shopping, medical and other appointments,” Stuart Ayres said.

“The statewide increase will provide around 389,000 extra community transport trips every year, bringing the number of HACC funded trips in NSW to around 1.6 million annually,” Stuart Ayres said.
