Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith and Tanya Davies MP, Member for Mulgoa today announced that local community groups, councils, charities and private organisations can apply for grants of up to $50,000 to create stronger social housing communities.

The one-off grants available to our local community form part of the NSW Government’s Social Housing Community Improvement Fund – a three-year, $20million commitment to build stronger social housing communities.

Grants will be awarded to organisations in our community for projects that could include the development or upgrade of communal gardens, playgrounds, basketball courts, skating ramps and meeting areas that provides opportunities for our community to come together.
“This is all about turning social housing areas into strong, vibrant communities that our residents are proud to call home,” Stuart Ayres said.

“I’m excited by the possibilities that these grants can bring to our local social housing communities.”

Tanya Davies said “The money can also be used for developments that improve resident safety such as disability access, fencing or lighting and that help integrate social housing with the surrounding community.
“I encourage all local organisations with a passion for improving the community to apply so we can create better living environments for everyone in Penrith and Mulgoa.”

Applications for SCHIF projects must be made online at https://socialhousing.smartygrants.com.au/SHCIF2015 from Monday 9 November until Friday 18 December 2015, with projects required to be completed before 31 March 2017.
