Exceptional Policing Reducing Crime

Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith has praised officers in the Penrith Local Area Command for their tireless efforts in combating local crime.

Stuart Ayres said that the most recent quarterly data from the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) is proof of the exceptional work of local police in preventing crime.

In the 24 months to December 2016, 16 out of the 17 major crime categories either fell or remained stable, including murder, domestic violence and robbery.

“I am really pleased to see downward trends in a number of crime categories.

Categories across the Penrith electorate have remained stable or are trending down in the two years to December 2016.

  • Break and enter dwelling is down 24.7% (Penrith City Council)
  • Steal from motor vehicle is down 17.2% (Penrith City Council)
  • Malicious damage to property is down 30.2% (Blue Mountains)

“This latest data from BOCSAR is a testament to our local police and their dedication to the safety and protection of our community,” Stuart Ayres said.

“I would like to thank all the communities in the Penrith electorate for being vigilant and establishing proactive partnerships with our police, ensuring public safety concerns are properly addressed,” Stuart Ayres said.

“Whether out on trail bikes or walking the beat, it’s been great to see the prevalence of officers in our community undertaking targeted policing to reduce local crime trends,’ added Stuart Ayres.
