Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith today announced that the Nepean River Green Bridge has received planning approval and geotechnical investigations will begin next week as the project gets underway.
Geotechnical investigations will commence on Monday 1 December to help the construction team better understand ground conditions – signalling the beginning of work to build the bridge for local pedestrians and cyclists.
A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) was conducted in September and October, with two information sessions held and more than 40 submissions received from the community.
Community feedback is summarised in a Submissions Report highlighting design improvements and other changes made in response to the feedback received.
“Community feedback has been invaluable in planning and designing this key walking and cycling connection which will improve safety and access across the Nepean River while preserving a wide rowing course,” Mr Ayres said.
“I thank everyone who took the time to share their thoughts and feedback about the project.
“We have involved the community every step of the way on this important local project and I am pleased we now have the green light to get started.
“Locals know that a walk along the Nepean is a fantastic, relaxing way to get some exercise, and this bridge makes crossing the river safer and more enjoyable for pedestrians and those on their bicycle.”
With planning approval now secured, site preparation work will be carried throughout December, with major building work to begin next year.
