Crime Down & Local Police Doing a Fantastic Job

Liberal Members for Penrith and Londonderry today welcomed the significant downward trends for the Penrith Local Government Area (LGA) across many areas of criminal activity as reported in the latest Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR).

In the last 24 months we have seen annual reductions of 12.4% in violent offences in the Penrith LGA.

The latest statistics also show the downward trend continuing for property offences which over the longer reporting period of 60 months now has an average annual reduction rate of 3.5%.

In the more specific major offences reports Penrith has seen some major improvements with:

  • Assault: Domestic related Violence – Down 15.4%
  • Assault : Non Domestic related Violence – Down 14.5%
  • Motor Vehicle Theft – Down 13.0%
  • Steal from a Retail Store – Down 19.4%
  • Malicious Damage to Property – Down 5.5%

\”These figures confirm that the Police Local Area Commands operating in the Penrith LGA are doing a fantastic job in fighting criminal activity in our local communities\” Mr Ayres said.

\”We are very privileged to have such a dedicated group of Police Officers on the beat in Penrith and these BOCSAR figures prove they are very effective at doing their Job.\”

\”Since being elected to government we have been committed to making our streets and communities safer and these reductions show that we are getting good results\”. Mr Bassett said.

\”We have put 400 more cops on the beat across NSW, with a significant number of new recruits starting in both the Penrith and St Mary’s Local area commands. The Government continues to toughen up laws that allow police to tackle crime and reduce anti-social behaviour in Penrith\”. Mr Bassett said.
