Minister for Sport and Recreation Stuart Ayres has congratulated the New South Wales State of Origin team following their series win over Queensland at ANZ Stadium.
In front of 83,421 fans, New South Wales beat the Maroons 6 – 4.
“The courage and determination on display by both sides tonight was nothing short of incredible,” Mr Ayres said.
“This current Queensland team has rightfully secured its place in Rugby League history alongside the likes of St George’s 11 straight Premierships and the Invincible Kangaroos from the 1980s, as a truly once in a generation side.
“This makes the Blues’ achievement all the more satisfying.
“To be the best, you have to beat the best, and under the guidance of Laurie Daley and leadership of Paul Gallen, this side has brought State of Origin back to where it belongs – New South Wales.
“From the freakish talent of Jarryd Hayne, to the rock solid halves pairing of Josh Reynolds and Trent Hodkinson, every member of this team has done their State proud.
“The Blues now have the opportunity for a 3-0 series whitewash for the first time in 14 years.
“Rugby League has never been stronger in New South Wales, and if tonight’s display is any indication, it will continue that way for a many years to come,” Mr Ayres concluded.
