Ayres Fights For Better Penrith Hockey Facilities

Liberal Candidate for Penrith Stuart Ayres said he will fight for desperately needed upgrades to the Penrith hockey fields at the University of Western Sydney, Kingswood campus.

Mr Ayres brought Shadow Minister for Healthy Lifestyles Kevin Humphries to Penrith to meet with representatives from the Penrith Hockey Association and lobby for desperately needed field upgrades.

“The hockey field in Penrith services nearly a million residents from Penrith, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Blacktown Local Government Areas,” Mr Ayres said.

“The surface is in such a state of disrepair there are fears it may be unusable by 2012,” he said.

“I share the concerns of local hockey players that if we lose this field it could spell the death of the region’s hockey association.”

“The fields are not only used by the local hockey association, but also local soccer teams and the University’s gridiron team.”

“It would be a tragedy to lose this fantastic facility because of years of neglect and an unwillingness of State, Federal and Local governments to work together to deliver the much needed upgrades.”

“If elected as the Member for Penrith I will bring together the stakeholders and all levels of Government and work to deliver the funding and governance model needed to save this valuable asset.”

“I will also help the local hockey association apply for State Government grants to deliver the urgently needed upgrades to this important facility.”

“I want all Penrith and Lower Mountains residents to be able to enjoy healthy lifestyles and part of this is ensuring good quality sporting fields and facilities are accessible to local residents,” said Mr Ayres.
