50 Years Of Service to the Red Cross

Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres MP today met with Ms Ilma Gairns of Penrith to congratulate her on being awarded her badge for 50 years of Service to the Red Cross.

“50 Years of Service is a huge accomplishment.  The dedication and commitment that Ilma has shown is truly inspirational” said Mr Ayres

Ms Gairns, now 94 years of age, was introduced to the Red Cross by family members at 7 years of age, joined the Junior Red Cross in her teens and helped the Red Cross during the war.  In 1963 she became a full time volunteer working in the blood bank in Sydney before transferring to the Penrith Red Cross branch.

“I have made many lovely friends over the years” said Ms Gairns “I have worked hard for the Red Cross and in return it has been a fulfilling experience”

Red Cross in Australia will celebrate its Centenary Year in 2014
