Western Sydney will see $1.6 million invested over four years for specialised treatment and support services, based out of Mt Druitt, for individuals using amphetamine-type stimulants such as ice.
Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres and Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies welcomed the funding which is part of the NSW Government’s $11 million election commitment to expand services across NSW.
Mr Ayres said the services will help treat addiction and avoid its chronic effects.
“We all know the negative effects ice use can have on our community. That’s why we are expanding stimulant treatment services,” Mr Ayres said.
The new treatment services will build on the work of the effective treatment models to deliver appropriate services and more interconnected pathways of care across the health system.
Tanya Davies said it was important to help people in the community get clean before they are in the grips of addiction.
“The stimulant treatment services in our region will have a focus on improving pathways of care for people who are using crystal meth, with a priority focus on providing specialised treatment for culturally and linguistically diverse groups,” Tanya Davies said.
