100 Days to Go Until Netball World Cup 2015

With 100 days to go until the Netball World Cup 2015, Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres has encouraged fans to get behind the sport.

“The Netball World Cup hasn’t been in Australia for 24 years, so this is an exciting opportunity for sport lovers to experience the world’s best,” Mr Ayres said.

“Netball is Australia’s largest female participation sport so it’s with great pride we’re able to bring the cream of netball talent right here to Sydney.

“We’ve already invested a record $35 million in our new state-of-the-art Netball Central facility which will support the hosting of the Netball World Cup 2015 with training, administration and playing facilities along with Allphones Arena,” Mr Ayres added.

The Netball World Cup Trophy Tour has been travelling right across Australia, and is set to clock up 25,000 kilometres in just over three months, capturing the imagination of local communities and encouraging them to get behind the event.

Day 4 of the tournament (Monday 10 August) will be designated Schools Day celebrating schools as a key part of the Legacy Program.  It will stage the World’s Biggest Netball Clinic on Olympic Boulevard for schools to participate in.

“Australia has long been the team to beat in world netball and we wish the Diamonds the best of luck as they prepare to defend their title as the world’s best in front of home crowds in August,” Mr Ayres said.

“With two competition days almost fully subscribed, the event is on-track to be the biggest women’s sporting event in Australian history,” Mr Ayres concluded.

The Netball World Cup 2015 will be held from 7 – 16 August.  For more information and to buy tickets go to
